The devastating news from Nepal and Tibet is a fast-moving story. Our experience in Nepal means we immediately see the scale of this event as very serious, with loss of life already climbing in numbers, and many will be homeless.
We have two partners on the ground and have already reached out to assess needs. We do keep a stock of filters in Nepal with these two partners and will know shortly what levels they have that can be sent out very quickly.
One of our partners is the Dolma Foundation and they work in Rasuwa, right in the middle of the area most affected, so will have first hand knowledge of what is required. We work closely with the Nepalese Armed Police, Gurkhas and the Gurkha Welfare Trust. We also have strategic stock with Nugal Vaidya, the Charter President at the Rotary Club of Kathmandu Circle who heads our delivery partner in Nepal, Rotary Kathmandu.
We are hearing that the Nepalese government is to make an announcement that they will be declaring a Custom Duty exemption for all relief aid materials for the next 3 months under District Relief & Rescue Operation (DRRO). This is great news for aid agencies as it will help to speed up delivery.
We are also reaching out to other partners, to offer our support with shipments from our depot in Derbyshire, to replenish the probably limited stock on the ground.
We have 1500 family filters ready to send, which will help 15,000 people displaced after the floods.
We will keep you informed of progress over the next few days.
In the meantime, our volunteers will be busy making more filters. The photos below show one of our response to floods back in 2024. Two more large shipments were made in 2025 But as a lot of this stock will already have been used over the last few months, more will be required.
We now require your donations to help us buy more stock of the component parts to make more filters, each family filter cost £35.
