Nearly a year after the powerful earthquake which hit Turkey, there are still many families and orphans who are without adequate shelter or safe water supplies. Many are unable to return to their homes so are still homeless or in temporary camps. Further earthquakes also caused more damage.
We were so pleased that Tenterden Rotary Club held a fundraising event recently to enable Aquabox to double the number of filters we sent to provide further support for Turkey.
Working closely with one of our aid partners, Operation Orphan, founded by Brad and Cyrilyn Moore, Brad collected 150 Aquabox family filters from our depot in Cromford on January 15th. These will be leaving from Operation Orphan’s base in Nottingham on 26th January bound for Hattay province.
Roger Cassidy, Chairman of Aquabox, shown alongside Brad Moore from Operation Orphan said, “This is our third shipment to the area. Each of our family filters will meet the daily water needs of up to 10 people and will go on working for months if not years. The disaster was on such a large scale that we foresee more shipments will be required and will be very grateful for any donations received.”
